Curriculum Information
Freshman Biology:
First quarter students will study microscopes, ecology, cells, and cell functions.. Students may be required to make an insect collection. Also, be on the look out for a permission slip for your child to be able to eat cricket cookies and mealworm dip as part of our ecology unit!
Second quarter students will study mitosis/meiosis, genetics and protein synthesis. They will calculate inheritance probabilities and create punnett squares. If time allows, students will study some biochemistry.
Third quarter students will learn about classification and engage themselves with dichotomus keys. They will also study evolution and microorganisms.
Students will learn about botany fourth quarter. Students may be required to make a leaf collection. ISU has many labeled trees on campus. They will also study animals from the bottom to the top of the evolutionary scale.

In addition, students will be required to write throughout the year as part of BHS's dedication to WRITING ACROSS THE CURRICULUM. There may also be a technology project done to further these skills.
