Curriculum Information (continued)

Fundamentals of Physical Science

Students will present experiments via the scientific method first quarter, and this unit is expanded from the freshman year. Students will graph and measure throughout the year.  Students will participate in an M&M meltdown activity and get to eat their results.  Students will also study speed, motion, acceleration, and velocity.

Second quarter students will study momentum , Newton's Laws of Motion, force and friction.

Third quarter will focus on simple and compound machines.  There will be several labs to accompany this material as well as calculations.  In addition, students will learn about engines.

Finally, fourth quarter will concentrate on forms of energy.  Light, heat, and sound will be covered.  Also, electricity and magnetism will be studied.  In addition, students will study about auto mechanics.  They will also have an opportunity to hear a guest speaker on the subject.

Throughout the year, students will be asked to write as part of BHS's dedication to WRITING ACROSS THE CURRICULUM.  To further computer skills, a technology project may be done during the year.
