Fundamental of Biology

     Students will study microscopes and ecology during first quarter.  They may be asked to draw an insect collection.  Be on the look out for a permission slip so your child may eat cricket cookies and mealworm dip as a culminating activity to our ecology unit.  Students will also study cells and mitosis.

     Second quarter students will learn about mitosis and meiosis.  They will end the semester with genetics.

     Third quarter students will learn about classification.  They will do a shoe lab.  SMELLY!  They will also study evolution and microorganisms.  They will go on a chocolate chip dig and have the opportunity to take part in a fungus buffet.

     Students will study both animals and body systems fourth quarter.  They will manipulate puzzles in conjunction with this material and participate in several labs. They will also dissect fetal pigs.

     In addition, students will be required to write as part of BHS's  dedication to WRITING ACROSS THE CURRICULUM.  Students may also do a  technology project during the year to improve computer skills.
