Where Are We?

Currently students are revising narrative essays. All students will complete 2 narrative essays byt the end of the 2nd quarter.

All students should have completed vocabulary notecards 1-30 by now.  These will be on the 2nd quarter grade.

Pattern 6 - Due Wed/Thurs (Nov. 18,19).  10 sentences - five done in class; five done for homework.

Welcome!

Let me give you a brief tour of the typical English block.

~Introductory Language Activity - We start class with an activity to engage thinking skills as related to language use.  Students will be able to talk to you about sentence patterns and combining sentences.  Patterns will also involve teaching parts of speech.

~Poetry - We read a poem together.  Students select lines to discuss.

~Vocabulary - We also collect words from poems, content-area classes, lists of frequently used words, etc.  After we've collected several words, we complete various vocabulary study activities.  I also challenge students to begin using these new words in their writing.

~Mini Lessons - Before Writer's Workshop, I present a mini lesson on class structure or the writing process.

~Writer's Workshop - Students have time to write in class (15-30 minutes).  Workshop ends with students sharing what they wrote, learned, etc.
