Guidelines
  • I will respect others at all times.
  • I will be responsible for my things and my actions at all times.
  • I will be ready for class at all times.  (Bring materials and be on time)

Materials Needed

  • Pencil ~All math work [homework, quizzes, tests, etc] must be completed with a pencil

  • Grading pen (blue, red, purple, green, etc)

When you walk through the door…

  1. Check to make sure you have ALL of your materials.   (Quietly)   Use the checklist on the front board.  Locker passes will only be issued during the first few minutes of class.  
  2. Make sure you have your math folder from the counter and your Math Minute book.
  3. Get out your homework and put it at the top of your table.  (Quietly)   I will do a homework check during the first few minutes of class.
  4. Open your notebook or get out 1-2 pieces of notebook paper.  (Quietly)
  5. Get out your progressive instruction page/problem solving book and work on the next two problems.  (Quietly)

 

Homework:

  • Most homework assignments will be worth 5 points.  This is a completion grade. 
  • Homework is due at the beginning of class.
  • Keep all homework assignments to help you study for chapter tests. 
  • Homework should ALWAYS be done in pencil. 
  • Use the correct heading on each assignment:  Name, Class-Period, Date, and Assignment. 
  • Handouts and assignments completed on notebook paper should not be torn.  It must be a whole piece of paper.
  • You must follow these guidelines to receive credit for the assignment.

Homework Quizzes:

  • There will be 1-2 homework quizzes each week.  These quizzes will range from 3 to 10 questions.  The questions will be similar to your homework problems.
  • Homework quizzes will be worth 5- 10 points.

 

Quizzes/Tests:

  • Mid-chapter quizzes will be worth 30-40 points.
  • There will be a test after each chapter.
  • You will be given at least two days notice before a test.
  • Use your class notes and homework assignments to study for each test.
  • Tests are generally worth 100 points.

 

Progressive Instruction Problems (1st, 6th & 7th hours):

  • Progressive Instruction problems are used to improve your Number Sense and Geometry skills/concepts.  You will do 10 problems.  This assignment will be turned it for a classwork grade.
  • After 10 problems, there will be an Progressive Instruction quiz.  This quiz is worth 10 points.  This is a graded assignment.  All 5 quiz questions will come from the previous set of 10 questions which we have already discussed. 
  • Use the practice set of questions as a study guide for the quiz

Problem Solving Workbook (3rd & 4th hours):

  • The problem solving workbook contains 5 problems for each "week."  These 5 problems will be due at the end of the week.  This assignment will be turned it for a classwork grade.
  • After 10 problems, there will be a quiz.  This quiz is worth 10 points.  This is a graded assignment.  All 5 quiz questions will come from the previous set of 10 questions which we have already discussed/graded. 
  • Use the practice set of questions as a study guide for the quiz

Math Minutes:

  • You will receive a Math Minute book which will remain in the math room.
  • You will do a Math Minute each period.
  • You will keep a log of your progress in your Math Minute book.

 

Integer Challenge
  • After your class has completed a unit on integers, you will take a 6 question integer quiz daily. 
  • You are challenged to score 80% or better FIVE times in a row.  At that time, you will not be required to take the quizzes.  You may choose to continue taking them for review.

 

Grading:

  • Tests/Quizzes 40%
  • Homework Quizzes 10%
  • Homework 20%
  • Classwork 10%
  • Progressive Instruction/Problem Solving Workbook 8%
  • Math Minutes 1%
  • Integer Challenge 1%

 

Absences:

  • If you have missed any class notes, copy the notes from the class logbook.
  • Handouts will be in your math folder on the counter. 
  • If you have missed a quiz or test, make arrangements with me to set up a time to make it up.
  • If you need extra help, let me know.
  • YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO MAKE UP ALL ABSENT WORK! 
  • You will have two days for every one day of absence to make up absent work.  Any work turned in afterwards will be considered late work.

Before you are dismissed from class...

  • Return any materials used/borrowed in class.  Make sure the black & white container at your table includes 2 pencils, 2 red pens, a pencil sharpener, and 2 calculators.
  • Write your assignment in your planner.
  • Make sure the tables are neatly arranged.
  • Pick up any papers on the floor around you.
  • When you are dismissed by the teacher, push your chair under the table.  The last class of the day will place chairs on the tables.

 

Passes:

  • Bathroom passes will only be given during work time.
  • You must use the bottom space in your planner on the appropriate date.  You must sign out in the logbook at the table by the door.
  • Locker passes will only be given during the first couple of minutes of class.
