                                                            Why geography?

Schools are the backbone of our democracy, and it  is my goal in teaching to provide young people with the skills and knowledge they will need carry this tradition into the 21st century through the study of geography.  Students will learn to more effectively communicate in many forms, collaborate with others, and apply the creative, divergent thinking skills required to meet the diverse challenges that await our world. This can be achieved through fostering a better global understanding, comparing and analyzing cultures, and celebrating diversity to prepare students for an increasingly globalized world.

"Consider this:  a general public not exposed to a good grounding in geography can be duped into believing all kinds of misinformation." (de Blij, Harm (1995). Harm de Blij's Geography Book:  A Leading Geographer's Fresh Look At Our Changing World.  New York:  John WIley & Sons, Inc.
