Welcome!
I am looking forward to getting to know you and your student and having a productive year. We will focus our efforts this year on Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and History. For most students, all subjects will be taught within our own classroom.
About Ms. Lambert
I am a proud Sheridan graduate and returned to teach here in 2001. Since then, I have taught 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades. I graduated with my Master’s in Reading from ISU this past May, and will work toward my National Board for Professional Teaching Standards certificate this school year. I love working at Sheridan and am looking forward to another great year!
School Supplies
I cannot stress enough how important it is to have the appropriate school supplies. Students are asked to bring the following supplies to school as soon as possible:
· 10 solid color pocket folder (with brads)
· Scissors
· White wide-ruled paper
· Small Elmer's glue, white
· Crayons
· #2 Pencils
· Colored pencils, box of 24
· 2 large boxes of tissue
· 3 Ring binder
· Pencil pouch
· Combination lock
Classroom donations are also accepted – hand sanitizer, Clorox or Lysol wipes, and paper towels are always appreciated.
Classroom Rules
1. Be Ready
2. Be Respectful
3. Be Responsible
4. Be Safe
We will discuss and practice what it means to be ready, respectful, responsible, and safe in all aspects of school life as needed throughout the year. Additionally, I will keep track of behavior through the use of a clipboard that will follow students throughout the day. Consequences will range from warnings, marks on the clipboard, time away from the class or an office referral, depending on the frequency and severity of the offense.
Communication:
It is very important that we have 2-way communication throughout the year. I will send home newsletters periodically to update you about our class. Additionally, we may communicate through e-mail, notes, phone calls, and your student’s agenda book. The very best way to contact me is through e-mail. However, for urgent issues, during the school day, such as, a change in after school plans, please call the main office. I intend to create a distribution list for parents of students in my class. Please indicate if you would like to be a part of this list on the student information sheet. I will keep your e-mail address private should you choose to join. If you do not wish to join, I will send you a paper copy of the information, as well as post it to my web page.
School Handbook Highlights
The school handbook you received at registration has important information regarding district-wide policies on issues such as attendance, health topics, and discipline. Below are just a few highlights that are worth noting.
· Assignments will not be provided in advance for anticipated absences for any reason. Make-up work will be given upon the student’s return.
· Treats for birthday celebrations must be arranged with the teacher in advance.
· Students are not allowed to use or display cell phones at school. If brought to school, they should be turned off entirely and stored in a backpack. If taken, parents must come to school to claim the phone.
· If a student is absent, please contact the school early, or expect school personnel to contact you to verify the absence.
· There are two access points to the building during the day. Visitors must use one of those entrances and check in at the office.
Homework:
Your student will have homework on a regular basis. Homework will be generally used to reinforce concepts we have been learning in class. Additionally, your student may have projects, make-up work, or unfinished class work as homework. The standard homework assignment each day is to read for 30 minutes. We will keep a reading log to monitor and track this homework. All other homework will be recorded in students’ agenda books.
