How can you help your child to become a better reader? 

Here are some helpful hints to use when reading with your child.

Before Reading a Story

• Read the title, author and illustrator
• Think about the picture on the cover
• Take a picture walk
• Predict/Ask questions

During the Story

• Rethink predictions
• Make new predictions
• Find answers to questions
• Reread story if needed
• Stay focused

After Reading the Story

• Talk about the story
• Retell the story (beginning, middle, end)
• Discuss characters, setting, problem, solution
