Reading and Writing

in Pre Kindergarten

We read all the time at school, but you should read to your student at home, too! Go to the Bloomington Public Library or borrow a book from our classroom Lending Library as often as you want!

Drawing pictures and scribbling “words” is an important part of writing in Preschool! We encourage this type of writing – it gets your student ready to write letters and words in Kindergarten!

It’s okay to read a favorite book over and over again. It builds your students confidence and makes reading fun!

We work hard on writing our name in Pre-Kindergarten, but it is great if students have even just a letter or two of their name by the end of the year.

We print and color many “Little Books” in the classroom that go along with our themes. Ask your student to get these out of his or her book bag and read it with them at home!

If your student brings home a picture, ask him what it is about. There is usually a story to go along with it!
