Enrichment & Reteaching

Sixth grade students have E&R from 2:00-2:45 daily.  E&R is not a study hall, although there are some occasions in which students will have the opportunity to work on homework.  During E&R students watch Channel One, a student news program, or CNN Student News before starting their activity for the afternoon. Students attend E&R with their roundtable classes and are on a rotating schedule in order to give both teachers an opportunity to work with all of the students.

Activities in E&R are sometimes an extension of the lesson from earlier that day, but often they are additional lessons intended to improve and strengthen students' skills.  Examples of E&R activities include:  reading and summarizing a newspaper articles, working with math manipulatives, watching BrainPop videos to preview upcoming lessons, performing science experiments, and working with technology in the computer lab.  Most often, Fridays are reserved for a "Friday Fun" activity such as playing classroom board games, classroom trivia questions, or origami.  From February to March, many of these E&R activities are centered on test preparation.

It is during this time that students participating in band, chorus, and orchestra meet for individual lessons and group rehearsals.  These students spend 3 of the 5 E&R sessions a week in their respective music class.  They are excused from the E&R activities on those days.
