Amy Oberts has embraced a variety of teaching positions during her 15
years in Bloomington, Illinois.
Following in her father's footsteps, Amy began her career as a
junior high mathematics teacher.
While moonlighting as a Gloria Jean's barista, Amy scraped
together enough caffeine and courage to earn National Certification in
Early Childhood/Young Adult Mathematics and a Masters degree in
Curriculum and Instruction from Illinois State University.
The unexpected opportunity to teach a section of sixth grade
Language Arts reignited her interest in reading.
Six years of teaching fourth grade students using
cross-curricular resources and emerging technologies led Amy to explore
the ever-changing field of librarianship.
For the past five years, Amy has enjoyed "putting down" roots at
Oakland Elementary School as the library media specialist.
She has become an accredited information specialist in the state
of Illinois and continues to investigate cutting-edge technologies.
Amy particularly enjoys learning about each child's reading preferences,
as well as introducing students to the latest technology tools.
