I have been part of District 87's teaching
community since graduating from Illinois State University in 1996.
During my first four years in the district, I had the privilege of
teaching mathematics and reading to sixth and eighth grade students at
Bloomington Junior High School. I enjoyed team-teaching and
piloting an innovative hands-on math curriculum while earning national
board certification in the field of early adolescent mathematics.
In 2000, I began teaching fourth grade students at Washington Elementary
School. Throughout my six year stay, I enjoyed the challenge of
integrating various subject areas while experimenting with new
technologies. I also earned a master's degree from Illinois
State University in curriculum and instruction during this time, and I
began looking for opportunities to work with additional grade levels
while integrating technology. In 2006, I was fortunate enough to
join the team of teachers at Oakland Elementary School as the library
media specialist.
In this role, I am able to see each child
on a weekly basis and build lasting mentorships. I enjoy learning
about each child's reading preferences, as well as exposing students to
the latest technology tools. My new "niche" involves blending
books and bytes while teaching students and faculty members...what could
be better? When I'm not busy reading a newly-released children's
book or tinkering with a new gadget, I enjoy reading cozy mysteries,
collecting Webkinz™ (...it's true!), and sipping Starbucks™ delights. |
