About me...

I retired from teaching Mathematics at Bloomington High Schoool in 2010.  Currently I teach in the Educational Studies Department at Illinois Wesleyan University and do consulting in schools.  I also supervise IWU's math student teachers and love what I'm seeing in the classrooms of these student teachers!

I have been giving workshops for teachers on math and technology all over the U.S. since 1992.  I received my BS degree in Mathematics from Illinois State University (ISU) and a masters degree in Educational Administration also from ISU.  I have been honored with teaching awards  such as the Golden Apple (2008) and the Presidential Award for Mathematics Teaching (1992).  I've been a visiting professor in the University of Illinois Mathematics Department for four semesters but found that I really missed teaching high school students.  One very exciting summer, I lived in Chicago at the University of Chicago while co-authoring the 3rd Edition of the UCSMP Geometry book.... definitely a highlight of my professional career!  I always dreamed of writing a geometry book!!!  Dreams do come true!

Somethings I learned that have changed my teaching...

I love Moodle.  Do you moodle?   I learned that Moodle can help me organize and grade student work, write and give quizzes that grade themselves, and provide a place for me to share great resources with my students.  Let me know if you want to learn more!

I've had an email address since July, 1993 and went to America Online (AOL) in Virginia to set up the website for The Teachers Network in New York City in 1994.  I set up the first network of computers at BHS in the mid 1990's and teachers had access to the Internet via an ISDN connection... how things have changed! (Thank goodness!)

I have a Smart Board in my room and love it...I use Excel, PowerPoint, Geometer's Sketchpad, Word, Fathom, FrontPage, PowerPoint, Photo Story, and more.  I also teach technology classes for The Connecting Link in Web Design, Word, and PowerPoint.
