Computer Software:  We will use Geometer’s Sketchpad throughout the year.  You may want a copy at home.  Web Site to visit:  http://www.keypress.com/sketchpad/index.html   (you can download a demo copy of this program so that you can practice at home…it will not let you save or print your work, however.)  You can also purchase a student copy of this through the school for $29.95.  Bring a check made out to Key Curriculum Press to me for $29.95 if you’re interested.  The school can earn extra copies for a group order!  Deadline for checks is Tuesday, October 2!

Tuesday, October 2                       Section 2.1       Perpendicularity and Slope - How to Cope with Slope LAB DUE TODAY BY 4:00!!

Objectives:  You will be able to:

  • Define perpendicular lines and oblique lines
  • Construct a perpendicular line from a point on the line.
  • Use a perpendicular to find the midpoint and a right angle.
  • Construct a perpendicular line from a point NOT on the line.

 Activity:  Computer Lab:  Constructing congruent segments and angles with Geometer's Sketchpad by using circles and rotations.
Homework:  Read and Take notes on section 14.4 and do p. 671 # 2, 3a, d, e, 4, and 5.  Be ready to test on vocab 4-9, 14.  


Wednesday, October 3              Section 2.2       Complementary and Supplementary Angles

NOTE: Only two left after this one!

 

Objectives: You will be able to:

  • Recognize complementary and supplementary angles.
  • Find an angle given information about its complement and/or supplement.
  • Prove theorems involving complementary and supplementary angles/

Homework:  Read and Take notes on section 2.2 and do p.  69 # 7-9, 12-16,17, 20, 22, 24, 25.   Be ready to test on vocab 1-14.


Thursday, October 4                             Section 2.3/2.4          Drawing Conclusions and Congruent & Supplements and Complements

Objectives: You will be able to:

  • Follow a five-step procedure to draw logical conclusions.
  • State correctly four new theorems and be able to prove them.
  • Prove angles congruent by using those theorems.

Friday, October 5                     Introduction to Geometer’s Sketchpad with the String Art
Quick Quiz over 2.2

 Project Objectives:  You will be able to:

  • Define and recognize line, rotational, and point symmetry
  • Use the reflection, rotation, and translation tools on Geometer’s Sketchpad (GSP)
  • Construct designs with Geometer’s Sketchpad that have all three types of symmetry using the reflection, rotation, and translation tools on GSP
  • Use the tools of the Geometer's Sketchpad to construct geometrical shapes.
  • Use the Geometer's Sketchpad to investigate line drawings.

 Activity: Begin designing your string art project with Geometer’s sketchpad in class. Homework:   p. 79 #13-15, 17, 20, and 21. Be ready to test on vocab 1-9,14.

Tuesday, October 9              Section 2.5                   Addition and Subtraction Properties

Objectives:  You will be able to:

  • Apply the Multiplication and Division properties of segments and angles.
  • State correctly the 2 multiplication and division property theorems.
  • Recognize when and how to use the multiplication and division properties.

Homework:  Read and Take notes on section 2.6 and do p. 91 – 94  # 11, 12, 14, 15.  Be ready to test on vocab 1-16.

  • Apply the Transitive property and the Substitution properties of segments and angles.
  • State correctly the 2 transitive property theorems.
  • Recognize when and how to use the transitive and substitution properties in proof.

Homework:  Read and Take notes on section 2.7 and do p. 97 # 12-14, 18.  and  Read and Take notes on section 2.8 and do p. 102 # 2, 5. Be ready to test on vocab 1-16.


Tuesday, October 16           Section 2.8         Vertical Angles            String Art is Due Tuesday, October 23 
 
Objectives:  You will be able to:

  • Define vertical angles and opposite rays.
  • State correctly the vertical angle theorems.
  • Recognize when and how to use the vertical angle theorem in proofs.

 Homework:  Read and Take notes on section 2.8 and do p. 102 # 9, 10, 12, 13, 14,15  AND study for the quiz.  Know all of the vocabulary and do the SAMPLE TEST for Chapter 2
