Types of
Deck Arch - the arch in a deck arch bridge is below the roadway
Through Arch - also called the bowstring or tied arch, the roadway is below the arch. The arch is anchored at each end of the roadway.
Half-Through Arch - the roadway cuts through the arch - not above nor below it.
Girder Bridge - bridge that is made of a solid beam that is supported at each end by piers.
Cantilever Bridge - made with two cantilevers, one at each side, with the gap in the middle bridged by a beam. The middle beam is supported by the two outside beams.
Truss Bridge - A truss bridge is assembled from a framework made of triangles and piers and connected with horizontal beams.
Suspension Bridge - two continuous steel cables that pass over two towers suspend the roadbed and are anchored securely to each end of the bridge. ![]() Cable-Stayed Bridge - The deck of a cable-stayed bridge is supported from cables connected directly to one or two towers.
