          Objectives:  Students will be able to :

      ·        define an individual and a variable (in statistics)
·       
describe what exploratory data analysis is and why a person uses it
·       
define and classify categorical variables and quantitative variables
·       
describe what the distribution of a variable can tell you
·       
describe the uses of pie charts, dot charts, and histograms and be able to create them given appropriate data
·       
define and locate outliers
·       
name the three things that describe the overall pattern of a distribution
·       
explain what it means for distributions to be symmetric or skewed
·       
describe the parts and uses of stemplots and timeplots and create them with appropriate data
·        explain what it means for data to have a trend and use it appropriately to describe data

Homework:  Read and take notes on p. 4- 25 and do P. 20 # 1.10; p. 22 # 1.12, and p. 26 # 1.17
