Janet and Melissa created this website based on data that we took from a simple random sample of seniors at Bloomington High School. The students that were chosen were randomly generated by a program in the calculator. They were then taken out of class and asked if it was possible to take their blood pressure. Everyone agreed, and we continued with our experiment. We had all the subjects stand up and tell us whether they played a sport or not. We then used an electronic blood pressure gauge and found our subjects' blood pressures.

Athletes or non athletes Blood Pressure
The Graph below shows the systalic blood pressure of athletes and non-athletes at Bloomington High School, and there seems to be no correlation. The higher the blood pressure does not necessarily mean that the person is an athlete or not. We used the TI-83 plus to find the correlation between athletes and non-athletes by using 0 for the non-athletes as the y-coordinate and 1 for the athletes. The resulting correlation was approximately .06. The second graph shows the dialatstic blood pressure, and using the TI-83 plus, we found the correlation to be approximately -.08.

Data
The first attribute shows the systalic number in your blood pressure. The first number is the number your blood pressure is under when the heart contracts. The second attribute is dialatstic, and is the resistance to blood flow. The first number for maximum healthy people is 120, and the second number for maximum health is between 80 and 60 (60 being the absolute best).

In our observational study we came across a few problems. These problems included willingness of teachers to allow us to remove certain students from class. Because these students could not be removed there may be some bias in the study. We did take the students blood pressure at different times of the day but due to a change in blood pressure after eating and time after sleeping the data could be altered. The sample was of 40 seniors. This sample was supposed to represent all seniors in the United States. The amount of seniors in the United States is over 10*40 which allows people to analyze our data using the conventional methods.
