Powell's Web Pages
for Students, Parents, and Teachers!
Lessons that utilize
manipulatives and problem solving.
Materials:
miras, straight edges, golf holes (created ahead of time or student
created), direction sheets
Goal:
Using miras, find the paths of a ball (bouncing off of walls) to make a
hole playing a miniature golf hole.
Activity:
Intro
to angles of incidence and angles of reflection .Property….The angle at which an object hits the wall (angle
of incidence) is equal to the angle it bounces off the wall (the
angle of reflection).
Make
a guess as to which walls to bounce the ball off of and create the
pattern of reflections from the “hole” to the first position of
the ball.
Connect
the reflections to create the path of the ball.
