Lessons that utilize manipulatives and problem solving.

Materials: cartoon/simple line drawing, ruler, grid paper

Goal:  Using grid paper and dilations, enlarge or shrink a cartoon/picture

Activity:

  1. Divide the picture into a grid 5 x 5 or something convenient
  2. Mark off that many squares on the grid paper that are not the same size as the original picture.
  3. For each square on the picture, copy that part of the picture onto the grid.  After copying each square, you should have a dilation of the original picture.
