My job was to be the journalist of the group. We had to do some research before we could build our structure. Some jobs might have required education to work with buildings would be: architect, carpenter, industrial engineer, materials engineer, design engineer, strength engineer, and height engineer. We all interview people that worked with buildings, and they worked for State Farm, Knapp Builders, and Carr Construction. We had to know: What the was the best shape to hold up a structure? How tall should the structure be? What kind of materials are made for skyscrapers? What's a beam and what are they made of? Which is stronger a short building or a tall building? Should the base of a building be very wide or very small? How do buildings stay up if they're so tall? How wide should the structure be in proportion to its height? We had many answers to all eight of these questions. Most of the people that we interviewed said that a triangular shape would be the best to hold up the structure. The building should be the same height as the width, and the material used for skyscrapers are steel. Beams are designed to hold the very heavy loads of the building, and they are made of wood or steel. A short building is stronger than a tall building, and the base should be very wide. Buildings stay up with the usage of triangles and engineering, and it should be a 1:2 ratio for the width of a building in proportion to its height. |

Our magnificent structure was crushed after only four, forty-five weights. It only held 180lbs. Our design was suitable to the height because it was 11 1/2 inches tall. How much our structure held was disappointing because we all thought it could hold a lot more than 180lbs. Some of the benefits of the design was that it was very strong in the center and it was very easy to make and it didn't take that much time to build it. The major weakness of the design was the outside because it didn't have many folders around the outside as it did the inside. If we could make any modifications to our structure it would be making the outside just as strong as we made the center of our structure. |
