What does a School Social Worker do?

As the Oakland Elementary School Social Worker and Counselor, I am available to offer a wide variety of services to our students. I work from the philosophy that each child comes to school with unique abilities for learning both academically and socially. I feel my job is to support students, staff, and parents in nurturing their children's growth and supporting every aspect of their learning.

Here are just a few of the tasks you might find me doing on any given day...

*Assisting with the planning, development, and implementation of intervention and/or special education services for students.

*Meeting with individuals and/or groups of students to enhance social and interpersonal skills, counsel children in times of crisis, and support the emotional needs of students in order to enhance their academic success.

*Provide parents with community and academic resources.

*Coordinate district and state testing (SAT-10, ISAT)

*Serve as liaison for homeless students and families in the district.
