Introduction
Get your thinking
caps on; it is time to have some fun!!
Local businesses have issued a challenge to pairs of students
in your school. This
contest’s goal is to create the perfect bedroom using a $10,000
budget. The winners of
the contest are chosen based on their final presentation of the room
to a panel of judges from the contest’s sponsoring businesses.
Each partner in the winning pair will earn all items purchased
in their created dream room. Be
creative, and let’s get to work!!

|
The
Process
·
Meet
with partner.
·
To
begin the assignment, you need to start with your blueprint.
Everything that you will be adding to the bedroom must be to
scale. Be sure to add the
scale you are using to the bottom of the blueprint and label each item
in the room.
·
The
bedroom you will be designing is of average size, 10’ x 12’.
Be accurate with your measurements-if it doesn’t fit, don’t
“buy” it.
·
Decide
on the scale you will use, and draw the outline of the room to scale.
Add 2 3-ft. wide windows to the room, as well as the closet
door and door to enter the room.
Standard doors are also 3 ft. wide.
·
It
is very important to figure out what the actual size of each
item you add to your bedroom will be.
This blueprint is a visual that will be included as part of
your visual presentation, and you may use graph paper if you would
like to.
·
Now
for the fun…..Each partnership
will be given a budget of $10,000.00.
You must be creative in order to stay within this budget.
It is very important that you don’t spend more money that is
allocated.
·
Use
the resources listed or others you may know of to “shop” for items
you want in your pair’s room. Don’t
forget to consider wall/window/floor coverings, as you are starting
with a completely EMPTY and BARE room.
·
As
you “purchase” items, document them on the Dream Room Purchase
Worksheet and cut out/print off pictures of the items you have chosen,
as well as any size/price information that is available about them.
These will be included in the final presentation.
·
With
each purchase, update table worksheet to keep track of purchases and
expenses.
·
When
all purchases have been made and the blueprint is finished, you must
organize your information into a presentation format of your own
choice. Suggested formats
include Power Point, poster, brochure or web page.
·
This
final product must be presented in a speech format to the “judges”
(and the rest of the class), highlighting the unique aspects of your
dream bedroom.
