Talk with your child every day about their school-day experiences, successes, and worries. Have a spot somewhere in the main area (kitchen) where they may write topics to be discussed. Read the school handbook and share this information with your child. They should know that you know what is acceptable or not in school. Meet your child's teacher and attend parent-teacher conferences. Please e-mail the teachers at least once a quarter to check on their academic level, attitude and behavior during school. Be aware of your child's academic progress by checking on-line grades weekly. Review homework assignments and help your child organize their time and work. (Planner) If there is no homework, make them read a book. Provide learning experiences. Visit museums, watch educational TV shows, and have books and other learning materials available at home. Join the parent-teacher organization and take part in its activities for they love to see you participate. Volunteer at school and/or make drop-in school visits to check on them. REMEMBER--YOU ARE THEIR FIRST TEACHER!! Your attention and involvement play an important role in your child's success at school. To access student grades, please visit the main BJHS website and click on the hyperlink for "Grades". |
