I just finished by 25th year of
teaching and my 26th year of marriage. I am a product of
District 87.
I graduated from Illinois State University
in 1984. I taught for The Baby
Fold before moving to Crookston, Minnesota in 1985. I jumped into
technology in Minnesota because of the necessity to do work at home. In
1984 we were gifted with the very advanced Apple IIc computer. It was
purchased for us as a communication device
for my husband who was diagnosed with
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease. That Apple IIc became a lifeline for me in completing a great quantity of special
education paperwork. From
there, I moved up to the Mac. I truly loved Macs until I converted to
PC's in 2000 in a move back to Bloomington, Illinois. This is my seventh year of teaching students with learning
challenges at
Bent Elementary
School in
District #87.I was an eager participant in the Moveable Feast (the teacher version) during the summer of 2003 and 2007. I discovered the power of a personal web page for having my curriculum at my fingertips. At the FEAST in 2006, I assisted in the demonstration of software that benefits students with learning challenges. During this year's FEAST, I look forward to working with Nora Bardi and Ashley Schnittker to demonstrate various computer tools that support students in their literacy skills. We plan to showcase various reading and math tools and interventions including Kurzweil, SOLO, Symphony Math, Soliloquy, Lexia, and a variety of free tools easily found on the web, and more. Look for us in Room 24 at BHS this summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays. |
