The Declaration of Independence (excerpts)

    We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.
    That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,-
    That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government. . .
    And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honour.
Declaration of Independence Scoring (out of 20 points possible):
Recite: 16
Recite and share a main idea: 18

Quarter 3 Field ReportStudents are expected to independently select and view a movie about civil rights (rights due to all populations in a society).  The movie may be a documentary or a dramatization.  In order to receive credit, students must submit a Field Report that includes:
1) notes (at least ½ page)
2) an explanation of what was learned form the movie (descriptions of new understandings, not restatements of notes)
3) an explanation of how the movie connects to 3 Essential Words

Each section of the Field Report is worth 3 points:

 

Extra Credit Opportunity: Watch the State of the Union Speech by President Bush and write a reaction based on his comments.

 

Scene Seen:  Should be completed and turned in by February 22nd.

Create a project/ product based on your Quarter Two paragraphs.

Assessment will be based on three areas:

content presented (5 points)

ideas presented (5 points)

product created (5 points)

cover sheet (3 points)

Your submission should include your paragraphs from Quarter 2 and a completed cover sheet with:
* Title
* Main idea(s) to share
* A description of what you learned and accomplished in terms of history content and skills.  (make it sound good)

* A description of one thing you would do to improve the project/ product if you had more time.

 

Quarter Three STTA:  Use your script and information sheet to develop a 60 – 120 second PhotoStory with dialogue that teaches about your Essential Word Clue in terms of the visual, definition, connection to the EW and the rhyme with today.  You may add more visuals as necessary.  Final product is due by February 8th.

 

EOQ: March 7th for new work and March 14th for late or make-up work.

 

Quarter Three Reaction:  Use the Internet to find information about one of the candidates running for President and write a reaction based on your results.

 

Q3 Backside Notes: You need to do backside notes for one EW from the following list: Immigration, Uncle Sam, Great War, Normalcy, 14th Amendment, Judicial, or New Deal.  Guidelines for completing backside notes are posted to the Audio Assignment Description page and were distributed with materials at the start of the year.
