Deja Vu Test: This is a test over 26 terms/ concepts we will explore during the year. 

Deja Vu Spiral: This is a spiral notebook in which students need to record the 26 Deja Vu terms, images and clues.

The most important term would be civilization.  A civilization is an advanced culture with cities, science and industry.  An example of a civilization is the Aztecs in Middle America.  It is important today because we are built around a civilization made of many cities and have many industries, like banks and factories.  Without industries we would have a hard time organizing and creating materials.

I think the most important term in 2009 is the Mayflower Compact.  It was a constitution that the pilgrims made before leaving the ship, the Mayflower, at Plymouth.  It gave rights to men and established 'fair and just laws'.  It was one of the first democracies in North America and modern day America, and we still have a democracy today, but with more rights given to citizens in it.  (So the Mayflower Compact was an early form of our constitution today.)

Extra:      I think the most important term is Peter Zenger-- strived to get the idea of freedom of the press through people.  Then Peter Zenger wrote things in newspaper about behavior of his town.  Now it gives the press the right to report the truth without penalty.  The press works for us.  He (Peter Zenger) wanted to be able to tell people about the wrong that was going on. 
    This goes with Bill of Rights.  This goes with that because of freedom of the press.  The press helps us gain information about what's going on around us, also about the world.  Because of Peter Zenger the press have the power to expose bad behavior.  Freedom of the Press.

Extra: The Battle of Monmouth was an important battle that was in New Jersey.  George Washington and the Continental Army attacked the rear of the British Army column commanded by Sir Henry Clinton.  It was on June 28, 1778.  The battle demonstrated the growing effectiveness of the Continental Army.  We won most of the battle, but darkness kept us from defeating the exhausted British for good.

Chicago Free Press folds; newspaper was geared toward gay readers

The Chicago Free Press has ceased publication after nearly 11 years as a newspaper geared toward gay readers.

"We just basically had to stop working because we weren't getting paid," she said, adding that she had the content for the next issue "ready to go" and ad sales were strong even with hits from the economy.

Editor Matt Simonette, the art director, graphic designer and most of the writers at the Chicago Free Press left the publication in December after the company stopped paying its employees.

Kennedy said she preferred to focus on the rich history of the publication.

"It has been my good fortune to have known and worked with many of these writers for more than 15 years," she said. "The fact that any of us chose to stay during these past few bumpy years is testament not only to the respect we have for each other, but to the dedication we have to serving Chicago's GLBT community."

The loss of the Chicago Free Press leaves the Windy City Times as the last gay newspaper in Chicago. Windy City Publisher Tracy Baim said the newspaper has learned to adapt and is focusing its efforts online and toward social media. She said the paper's Web site receives 90,000 unique visitors per month on average and recently launched an iPhone application. 

"We certainly feel like we cover a range of the community, and we will continue to do so. Our competition is far beyond any one newspaper entity," she said.
