This is my 11th year teaching at Stevenson Elementary. My first two years I taught 3rd grade and the last seven years I have enjoyed teaching 4th grade. Before teaching at Stevenson I taught at Blooming Grove Academy in a 3rd and 4th grade split class. I am looking forward to learning about my students.
I was born and raised in Belton, Missouri, a small town outside of Kansas City. I graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a concentration in math. Once I started teaching at Stevenson I was able to work towards National Board Certification which has opened many doors for me. Since achieving my National Board Certification I've been able to work with the Illinois State Board of Education to help in the collaboration of writing the math portion of the ISAT (a test we will take in the spring). I've also worked in a mentoring program to help student teachers and new teachers make the transition to working in the classroom. In 2010 I received my master's degree in reading education from Illinois State University.
When I am not teaching or extending my education, I enjoy spending time with my dogs, Jovie and Gracie. Jovie is a mix of many types of dogs: Lab, Rot, Chow, and I am sure more that I don't even know about. Jovie's real name is Jovial...for extra credit look up "jovial" and let Ms. White know you know what it means! Gracie is named after Mark Grace, a former Cub first baseman. She is a Yellow Lab and full of energy!
Reading, scrapbooking, paper arts and restoring my 100 year old home also take up my spare time...however, when school's in session there isn't much of that! I adore teaching and love learning from my students. The best part of sharing my day with the kids is the insight they bring to each activity!
