| PBIS Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports
Students at Stevenson Elementary School
demonstrate safe, respectful and responsible behaviors. The faculty and staff
utilize a
management program known as PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports)
which fosters positive behaviors in our students. The process focuses on
improving a school's ability to teach and support positive behavior for all
students.
Everyone at Stevenson is actively involved in the program and committed to its
success. It is a team-based process for systemic problem solving, planning and
evaluation. It is an approach to creating a safe and productive learning
environment where teachers can teach and all students can learn.
The school-wide system includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching and
supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments.
Stevenson Elementary has three behavioral expectations: Be
Safe, Be Respectful and Be Responsible. These expectations are
universal throughout all areas of the school. You will see these expectations
posted throughout the school and in different areas of the building, such as the
classrooms, hallways, restrooms, playground, bus, etc.
Behavioral expectations are taught using the same teaching formats
applied to other curricula. The
general expectation, the rationale for the expectation is discussed, positive and
negative examples (correct and incorrect examples) are described and rehearsed.
Stevenson Staff is dedicated to recognizing students who demonstrate the
behavioral expectations. A strong
reinforcement system is a major component of the program. Students earn
Tiger Tickets when they make good behavioral choices. Tiger Tickets are an
immediate, formal system that rewards positive behaviors.
When your child receives a Tiger Ticket we encourage you to take the time
to discuss and reinforce your child's positive behaviors.
Families have a role in helping their child to develop positive
