Welcome to 1st Grade!
Hybrid Learning Schedule
Hybrid Learning will begin the week of October 26th. All students will have a Zoom Class Meeting on Monday. Then some students will come on Tues/Thurs and the other 1/2 of the class will come Wed/ Friday. When students are at home for their At Home Learning Days, there will be activities listed in our Google Classroom under the classroom tab that they will need to complete at home.
Please be sure to check the Oakland Website and District 87 Website for updated information. I have also put other Hybrid resources in our Google Classroom so please be sure to look there if you have questions.
While this year is different, I am so happy to be able to work with your students and help them grow this year. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Meet the Teacher
Mrs. Theresa Meadors
Hello! My name is Theresa Meadors. I am excited to start my 16th year of teaching! I have taught Kindergarten, 1st grade and 4th grade. I love to teach 1st grade to see how much the students grow and learn during this year. I was born and raised in Bloomington and am a proud alumni of District 87! I attended Illinois State for my undergraduate and Masters in Reading coursework.
I am a wife and mother to 2 beautiful girls, Cassidy and Kelsey and 1 boy, Owen. Together, my family and I like to read books, play outside and play games.
I look forward most to the relationships I will build with your students and help them to see their full potential. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I appreciate your time and support and look forward to a great year together!
We will use Remind to communicate this year. I will share important events, sign ups and pictures. We can also message each other through this site. To join, you will need to have an access code. Please contact me if you do not have this code.
During our time for hybrid learning, we will use a combination of Google Classroom and Zoom. Please be sure to check our Google classroom for important activities and reminders.
Scholastic Book Club
You will have the opportunity to order books monthly from Scholastic Book Clubs. You can order online or using the flyers I will send home. If you use the flyers, please pay with checks. The due dates will be on the flyers. Our parent code is HZXPJ. We earn free books with each order. Thank you for your support of our classroom!
Library Lesson Links
We have some wonderful lesson links the students use during the day and at LMC. Please clink on the picture to visit these at home. (Note - some have limited at home access or will need to be logged in using the student's district username and password.)
When we return to school - Lunch Menu
Our lunch menu will be sent home each month in the school newsletter. Here is an online verison as well.
While we will be on Remote Learning for the first quarter, we will continue to use our District 87 Curriculum to help students become stronger readers, writers and mathematicians.
We will have monthly reading logs. Please be sure to work on these with your student by reading for 20 minutes each night. When students return their completed reading logs, they will earn a prize.
We listen to our students read individually on a regular basis and make decisions about the content of our Guided Reading lessons based on their needs. Each child participates in Guided Reading groups. When students are not reading with a teacher, they will partipcate in Daily 5 (Word Work, Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing or Listen to Reading). We will use American Reading Company to guide our whole group and small group instruction for reading.
Students will learn manuscript for handwriting. We will focus on correct letter formation and pencil grip.
We will work on a number of different topics in Math through the use of Envision Realize 2020, Math Daily 3 and guided math groups.
- Counting, writing, comparing and ordering numbers 1-120
- Place Value
- Counting by 2, 5, 10
Social Emotional Learning
We will also spend time learning about our emotions, tools to handle them and ways to be a good friend. We will use 2nd Step, picture books, Monthly Cool Tools and class discussion to build our understanding and strategies of our emotions. We are a bucket filling school and try to fill other people's buckets daily!
We will follow the NGSS Standards for Science. These help students with inquiry and investigation processes. We will learn about weather, the Earth, forces of motion and animals.
We will focus on community helpers, mapping, rules and important people.
I look forward to partnering with you to create a successful learning environment for your student. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
