Meet the Teachers
Mrs. Theresa Meadors
Hello! My name is Theresa Meadors. I am excited to start my 17th year of teaching! I have taught Kindergarten, 1st grade and 4th grade. I love to teach 1st grade to see how much the students grow and learn during this year. I was born and raised in Bloomington and am a proud alumni of District 87! I attended Illinois State for my undergraduate and Masters in Reading coursework.
I am a wife and mother to 2 beautiful girls, Cassidy and Kelsey and 1 boy, Owen. Together, my family and I like to read books, play outside and play games.
I look forward most to the relationships I will build with your students and help them to see their full potential. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I appreciate your time and support and look forward to a great year together!
Miss Mackenzie Ebers
Hello! My name is Mackenzie Eber and I will be the student teacher in Mrs. Meadors' classroom this year. My hometown is a small town about an hour North called Morris. I am currently a senior at Illinois State University studying Early Childhood Education. Outside of school, I keep myself busy running my dance team at ISU. I also love reading, watching movies, and spending time outside. Kindergarten has always been my favorite grade, so I am very excited to spend the whole year with this group!

Curriculum
We will use our District 87 Curriculum to help students become stronger readers, writers and mathematicians. We use ARC for Language Arts and Illustrative Math for Math instruction.
Reading Logs
I would love to have each student reading every night!! You can read to your student, your student can read to you or a pet or a sibling or a stuffed animal! I will have a special reading bag I will send home, too, so students have books at home. I will send home monthly reading logs. Please have your student color in a picture for each book he/she reads and return it when he/she has completed it for a prize!
Language Arts
We listen to our students read individually on a regular basis and make decisions about the content of our Guided Reading lessons based on their needs. Each child participates in Guided Reading groups. When students are not reading with a teacher, they will participate in Daily 5 (Word Work, Read to Self, Read to Someone, Work on Writing or Listen to Reading). We will use American Reading Company to guide our whole group and small group instruction for reading.
Handwriting
Students will learn manuscript for handwriting. We will focus on correct letter formation and pencil grip.
Math
We will work on a number of different topics in Math through the use of Envision Realize 2020, Math Daily 3 and guided math groups.
- Identifiying, counting, writing, comparing and ordering numbers 1-100
- Graphing
- Addition

Social Emotional Learning
We will also spend time learning about our emotions, tools to handle them and ways to be a good friend. We will use 2nd Step, picture books, Monthly Cool Tools and class discussion to build our understanding and strategies of our emotions. We are a bucket filling school and try to fill other people's buckets daily!
Science
We will follow the NGSS Standards for Science. These help students with inquiry and investigation processes. We will learn about weather, the Earth, forces of motion and animals.
Social Studies
We will focus on community helpers, mapping, rules and important people.
