Mr. Jeff Platt
Mr. Platt has been teaching for 21 years in a number of different subject areas. His first ten years of teaching were primarily math at all three grade levels, but also included social studies and industrial technology. He has been teaching computers and technology for the last 11 years, developing curriculum in graphic design, 3d design, web design and html programming as well as internet safety and basic computer applications.
Mr. Platt grew up in the northwest suburbs of Chicago and moved to this area in June of 2019 specifically for this job and is enjoying working with these students and this community

6th Grade Intro to Design

6th Graders will be introduced to multiple types of design and the iterative design process. This is a new class for 2021-22!
7th Grade Graphic Design

Students will be working with concepts in Graphic Design and Communication. They will get a basic introduction to parts of graphic design, terminology and various uses for graphic design. We will spend a good amount of time showing how these are used for good communication.
There will also be two large Problem Based Learning units that we will explore:
- An advertising campaign for a PSA type message
- Creation of a board game
8th Grade Engineering and 3D Design

Students will be working with concepts in Engineering, such as iterative design and thinking, as well as 3D design. We will work on having good practices using basic 3D CAD to create functional objects, as well as understanding the process of 3D printing and different kinds of printing.
Students will engage in a number of different 3D design challenges, followed by a Problem Based Learning unit in which they will create a new invention.
