The Seal of Biliteracy/The Commendation toward Biliteracy
Bloomington Public Schools, District 87 is proud to offer the opportunity for juniors and seniors to earn the Seal of Biliteracy, in which students who show a high level of proficiency in two or more languages will be recognized by the state of Illinois. Students will be honored their senior/graduating year.
We value our students' linguistic diversity. Students who earn the Seal will receive the following:
- A Seal attached to their diploma
- Documentation of language proficiencies on their permanent transcript
- Students who plan to attend an Illinois college or university will also earn credits for their accolades.

What are the benefits?
Students who earn the Seal of Biliteracy will receive the following from the school district:
- Recognition at graduation
- Official Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma
- Official Seal of Bilitearcy on their transcripts
Students who earn the Commendation Toward Biliteracy will receive the following from the school district:
- Recognition at graduation
- Official Commendation Toward Biliteracy on their diploma
- Official Commendation Toward Biliteracy on their transcripts
Students will be able to add the Seal or Commendation Toward Biliteracy to their professional resume.
Students who attend a public university in Illinois will earn credits. Some of the university websites are available below with more information:

What languages are available?
A student must show proficiency in English and one or more of the following langauges:
- Spanish
- French
- Arabic
- Hindi
- Chinese
- German
- Italian
- Japanese
- Russian
- Thai
- Portuguese
- Korean

How much does it cost?
Cost:
Students who take the SAT or the ACCESS for ELLs through Bloomington High School do not pay for the test.
Students who would like to retake the SAT, or take the AP or AAPPL test are responsible for payment. For financial assistance, please contact Kim Taber, Multilingual Services Coordinator.
AP test: $89/test
AAPPL test: $20/test
