  • FIFTH GRADE PERFORMING ENSEMBLES - BAND | ORCHESTRA | CHOIR

    This website is a resource for students about to enter fifth grade in District 87 Elementary Schools: Bent, Irving, Oakland, Sheridan, Stevenson and Washington.  Students can choose to participate in band, orchestra or choir.  All of these programs meet before school each day at Bloomington Junior High School from 8:00 am - 8:45 am. 

    Program Start Date: Friday, August 18, 2023

    BAND/ORCHESTRA/CHOIR ENROLLMENT IS OPEN SOON FOR THE 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR!

    Steps to Enroll for current 4th Grade Students:

    Step 1 - Review the meeting presentation for an overview of our music program

    *RECRUITMENT MEETING PRESENTATION

    *ESPANOL - RECRUITMENT MEETING PRESENTATION

    Step 2 - Choose an instrument - All students completed a trial and received a recommendation letter at school

    *If another trial is needed, please visit one of the local music stores

    Step 3 - Complete and submit the GOOGLE REGISTRATION FORM 

    Step 4 - Band/Orchestra only - Rent an instrument before Friday, August 4, 2023

  • How do I go about getting an instrument?

    Most students have completed the instrument selection process after visiting with a music teacher at their elementary school. A recommendation letter was sent home with students that completed instrument trials; however, if you would like to explore more options with your child, the information for our local music stores is listed below.  

    These local music stores provide our recommended instruments and supplies.

    Required books:
         Band: Measures of Success book 1
         Orchestra: String Basics book 1

    If you are unable to find a store that has a rental program that will work for your budget, please contact Ms. Kelly or Mr. Mackinder for assistance.  We will work with you to find an instrument and get your child playing music with us!

Free lessons and instruments are available based on financial need (free & reduced lunch students).
