Classroom Management

All Oakland students are expected to be respectful, responsible, and safe.

When students make great behavior choices in the classroom, they are verbally praised and are helped to see how that great choice builds our classroom community.  Students who continually make outstanding behavior choices are recognized with a Positive Office Referral.

When students make poor behavior choices, we first give them visual and verbal reminders of our behavior expectations.

When students continually make poor behavior choices after those reminders, logical consequences occur.  The consequences may include such things as a time out or loss of a privilege.  Students may also be asked to find a Thinking Spot in the classroom and complete a Thinking Spot form to help them think through the choices they are making.  This form will be discussed with a teacher and sent home to be signed by a parent and returned the next day.

Should a student's behavior be severe enough to warrant an Office Discipline Referral, that form will also be sent home to be signed by a parent and returned the next day.

Our class will also work together to earn whole class "Mystery Rewards!"  Points will be awarded when the entire class is demonstrating respectful, responsible and safe behaviors.  Points will also be awarded when the class receives a compliment on their behavior.  When the class earns 120 points, teachers will reveal a Mystery Reward for everyone to enjoy!
