Holiday Remote Learning Update

Hello District 87 Families,

I want to thank all of you for your partnership as some of our students return to in-person learning and others continue with remote learning. I recognize transitions are not easy and it takes time to develop relationships and adjust to these changes.

As we get closer to Thanksgiving and the number of COVID cases continue to rise, it may become even more challenging to remain with our in-person schedule. We will continue to monitor these numbers and the impact it has on our staff and student attendance. We will also continue to keep in close contact with our local hospitals and health department to help in our decision making process.

To further help minimize this risk, the district has made the decision to have all students learn from home the week of Thanksgiving (November 23-24), the week after Thanksgiving (November 30 - Dec. 4) and the week after Winter Break (Jan. 5-8). For the remaining weeks of the first semester, students will follow their current hybrid schedule.

Details about this schedule change are available here.

For 100% remote learners in grades PK-12, students will continue to follow their schedules as usual.

Finally, it is important to know that it is possible we may need to move to or continue remote learning due to metrics out of our control. We will give you as much notice as possible if things need to change.

Remember — updates are regularly added to www.district87.org/covid, including meal distribution, FAQs, and health/safety information.

Please stay well, and continue to help keep our community safe by wearing a mask, washing your hands, and social distancing.

Sincerely,

Dr. Barry M. Reilly
