Current and future Staffing needs: 

  • District 87 has substitute teaching positions available.

    • When teachers call in an absence, other teachers and certified staff will step in to cover classes.  No unusual trend of illness and absences for staff and student body.  Covid testing is not mandatory and masking is optional.  Covid tests available for those seeking them, contact office staff.  

  • Currently, no changes expected to zero hour PE or foreign language for class for 2023-2024 school year. 

  • Upcoming 2 year, Foreign Language requirement for Class of 2028 students and beyond

Fannie May fundraiser:

2022 raised $16,235

2023 raised $8,873

  • Difference likely due to the passing of previous sponsor who was gifted at eliciting participation

  • An alternate sponsor has contacted Dr. Jarvis and a meeting will be requested to meet and see if improvements can be made for next year’s fundraising. Karl Goeke, PTO President offered to participate in the meeting.


Faculty Lounge vending machine:

  • Popular with faculty and small profit has been made


Choir concert trip transportation request:

  • In December, the Choir teacher requested transportation to a local concert and due to bus driver shortages, the district is not able to provide bussing.  The cost to charter a private bus (Peoria Charter) is $1600 and the school is able to pay for $600, leaving $1000 needed.  The request was put to the PTO Board members and was approved unanimously.  

  • Currently, the request remains open and unpaid. 

    • Dr. Jarvis will contact the Choir director 


Faculty material funds:

  • Funds are being used with none fully depleted

Functions of the PTO:

  1. Staff Appreciation: PTO provides special items for the staff

  2. Fundraising: Fannie May candy

  3. Spirit wear: P.E. clothes and school spirit clothes

  4. 8th-grade celebration: 8th graders celebrate graduation with lunch and a movie and an 8th-grade dance (if Covid is an issue PTO will provide the students with gift cards)

  5. Outdoor Education: 8th-grade students learn outdoors for 1 week

  6. Hospitality: PTO provides snacks for small events throughout the school year

  7. Promise Council: Provides clothes and school supplies for students in need

BJHS PTO Minutes

September 22, 2022

Virtual meeting attended by:  Karl Geoke, Sarah Boesdorfer, Amanda Jarvis, Courtney Turnbull and Andie Lewis

Meeting Time: 7:00 pm

 

PTO Board President Karl Geoke:

  • Thanks given to previous Board Members for their service. 

  • Discussion on changing PTO meeting dates; once decision is made, will be announced to staff and parents.

  • Student Planners – inquiry was made and was told that teachers are creating and printing them for students so no planners were purchased by PTO.

Principal Dr. Jarvis’ Report:

  • Thank you PTO, volunteers, previous board members, new board members. 

  • Fanny Mae fundraiser will commence soon with new representatives as the long-time rep, “The Candyman,” has passed away.  Details will be distributed this week in PE classes. 

  • Request has been received by BN Parent’s group, Liz Hamilton to hold a presentation to the PTO for Drug and Alcohol prevention.  PTO has agreed to incorporate this at a future date. 

Treasurer Sarah Boesdorfer’s Report:

  • Teachers and Staff School Funds – Changes made to give a lump sum to Teams rather than individually including LBS and Multi-lingual teams. 

    • Request to allocate funds to individual Para-Pros were approved.  Para-Pros are assigned to multiple Teams and due to this, will be given individual funds.

  • Staff Lounge vending machine – A teacher has come forward to volunteer her time to stock and maintain the vending machines.  The initial funds needed to purchase stock has been requested and approved.  All proceeds will be deposited back to the PTO accounts. 

 

Next PTO Meeting:   To be held at the school and will be announced at a later date.

Spirit Wear
Our spirit wear can be ordered throughout the school year. The order form was
mailed home at the beginning of the school year. Extra order forms are available in
the main office. Orders can be turned into or mailed to the main office. Office hours
are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

BJHS PTO welcomes you to shop at our online spirit wear store!  It will be open from today, October 4th until Friday, October 22nd. Support your BJHS Knights!

When you choose “orders delivered to main location”, your order will be delivered to the school and distributed to your students.
These are custom wearables, and unlike in-school spirit wear, items cannot be returned or exchanged unless defective.
