SOLAR ECLIPSE 2024
On April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will cross North America through Illinois and Indiana. The area that will experience a total eclipse runs through Southern Illinois and Indiana and will last for over four minutes. The next total eclipse will occur in the United States in 2044. A total eclipse is when the sun is completely blocked, allowing you to see the stars, like in this example.
Teachers have been given permission to take students outside to view this special event. The district has provided all students with special solar glasses to view the eclipse safely.
Looking at the Sun is always dangerous, and it isn’t any better or worse during an eclipse. We all have this almost instinctive thing we do whenever the Sun accidentally gets into our field of vision – we squint, we close our eyes, we turn our heads away almost immediately, because the Sun is just too bright to look at.
Normally, this is all the protection we need, to make sure our eyes stay safe – we just simply DON’T look at the Sun!
So now that there’s a total eclipse of the Sun going on, we want to look at it because we’ve heard it’s really cool. But we have to tell you again, DON’T LOOK at the Sun without proper eye protection! That’s the rule. If you use safe methods then your eclipse experience will be fun AND SAFE!

🌙 Countdown to IAR Test - Early to Bed 🌙
Wednesday Wisdom: A well-rested brain is a powerful one! 😴✨
Sleep plays a critical role in ensuring our students are at their best come test time. It's not just about quantity but quality too. Aiming for 8-10 hours of restful sleep can dramatically improve memory retention and sharpen focus. 🧠
As we inch closer to the IAR test, let's establish a calming bedtime routine for our kiddos. Turning off electronic devices, dimming the lights, or reading a book can signal to their bodies that it's time to wind down. 📘💡 Let's remind our students that while studying is important, sleep is their superpower for success!
Encourage your child to hit the hay a little earlier tonight for that extra boost in brainpower tomorrow. Keep an eye out for our next "Test Your Best" tip!

Tuesday Tip: Let’s shake off those pre-test nerves! 🏃♂️💨
Did you know being active for just 20 minutes can significantly reduce anxiety and boost your mood? Perfect for burning off those pre-test jitters. Whether it’s dancing to your favorite tunes, taking a quick jog, stretching out with some yoga, or engaging in a sport you love, getting moving is key. 🧘♀️🏀🎵
Physical activity increases blood flow to the brain and prepares our kids mentally and emotionally for the challenges ahead. Let’s encourage our children to stay active and keep those nerves at bay as we get closer to test day.
Stay tuned for more daily tips as we countdown to the IAR test! Together, we’re helping our students to test their best. ✨

📣 Countdown to IAR Test - One Week Away! 📣
All D87 3rd-8th graders will take the state IAR test and every day leading up to the test, we will share a "Test Your Best" strategy to help our students excel. Today's tip centers around healthy eating.🍎🥦
Food fuels our brain and the right foods can give it an extra boost. Opt for brain-boosting foods like fish, nuts, seeds, yogurt, and blueberries. These superfoods are not just delicious, but they're also packed with nutrients that support memory, concentration, and overall brain health. 🧠
So, let's help our children be as prepared as possible by focusing not just on studying, but also on eating right. Remember, our students' success is a team effort!
Stay tuned for tomorrow's tip!
