Visual Arts

The Art Department at Bloomington High School utilizes two classrooms and services kids of all ages and experience. The level 1 classes are Art I, Photo I, Ceramics, and Printmaking. Our level 2 of classes are Art II, Photo II, and Sculpture. The upper level classes are Advanced Art Studio I & II with an option for taking the AP exam. We also have introduced a dual credit class starting in 2017 in cooperation with Heartland Community College for an art history course called “Understanding Art.” One classroom features a ceramics studio equipped with two kilns and a pug mill. The second room has a screen printing darkroom. The digital photography studio features backdrops, tripods, lighting, and a camera checkout. Level 1 artists use tempera, acrylic, ceramics, and other sculpture materials, while level 2 artists learn to paint with oil paint on canvas. Students enrolled in art classes at BHS practice presenting their artwork in the community as well as the new art gallery at BHS in order to showcase their work. Three art teachers teach in the department ranging from 10 to 25 years of teaching experience.
