In honor of Veterans Day, Oakland Elementary's 2nd-grade teachers, Mrs. Malisia and Mrs. Wolfe, held an academically loaded boot camp. They learned and practiced the 6 steps of the writing process, practiced punctuation, tackled math word problems, learned about Veterans Day, and tomorrow will be completing a STEM challenge, building a parachute for a soldier drop! What an awesome and meaningful experience!♥👏🏼

👏🏼 We’re excited to officially welcome Marcus Lewis to his new role at BHS!
Marcus is not new to D87—he’s been a paraprofessional at BJHS for 7 years and worked as a full-time substitute teacher at BHS last year. Now he is officially joining the ranks of the BHS staff as a Special Education Teacher (LBS1)- his passion for working with students and making an impact in the community has guided him into his new role!.
Marcus is looking forward to seeing students grow academically and functionally throughout the school year. Outside of the classroom, he also coaches football at BHS, where he enjoys working closely with his players and colleagues (Go Raiders!!!). 🏈

Kelsey recently joined Stevenson Elementary as a 4th-grade paraprofessional. She previously taught 4th grade at Fieldcrest in Minonk during the 2016-2017 school year, but took time off from education before returning to work at a local doctor’s office. Now, she’s excited to be back in the classroom, especially since her schedule aligns with her son Maximus, who is a student at Stevenson!

Coach Mables brings an incredible wealth of experience both on and off the court:
👉 Principal at Cedar Ridge Elementary School in Unit 5
👉 Former collegiate athlete at the University of Texas El Paso, where she helped lead the team to a Conference USA Championship and an NCAA March Madness appearance in 2008
👉 Transferred to Union University, leading the team to back-to-back NAIA National titles in 2009 & 2010.
👉 Her leadership extended off the court, with administrative roles in Rantoul and Champaign Unit 4 school districts, all while making time to coach!

"🌼💀🕯 Check out the altar displays of Bent and Sarah Raymond for "Día de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead).
To celebrate this beautiful tradition of remembrance on this special day, students and staff created "Dia de los Muertos" altars that include the favorite meals and drinks, as well as pictures and mementos, of the departed. 💕 Meanwhile, at BHS Kelcie Sundberg's Spanish classes enjoyed some Pan de Muerto to celebrate after learning all about the Dia de los Muertos!
