As March begins, we look back at the creative end of Black History Month at BHS where classes showcased their creativity in the Black History Month Door Decorating Contest. The theme: Black Health and Wellness 🚪✨. Judges looked for creativity, the insightful incorporation of Pan-African colors, and the educational impact of each entry. 🌟 Black History Month Spotlight at BHS 📚✊ February is Black History Month, and Mrs. Findley's African American History class is reading "Up from Slavery" by Booker T. Washington. 📖 Local history - BHS's own Crystal Curry shared the story of her father, Dewitt Taylor, who was a baker recruited from Fairfield, Alabama to come up to Thompson's Bakery in the 1950s. She shared that he was once arrested at a restaurant in Louisville for refusing to leave the segregated lunch counter. Once in Bloomington, Mr. Taylor worked at the bakery and was also the first Black man hired at the McDonald's on Main Street, and he made the sausage for Garcia's Pizza back in the day!
