🌟 Black History Month Spotlight at BHS 📚✊
February is Black History Month, and Mrs. Findley's African American History class is
reading "Up from Slavery" by Booker T. Washington.
📖 Local history - BHS's own Crystal Curry shared the story of her father, Dewitt Taylor, who was a baker recruited from Fairfield, Alabama to come up to Thompson's Bakery in the 1950s. She shared that he was once arrested at a restaurant in Louisville for refusing to leave the segregated lunch counter. Once in Bloomington, Mr. Taylor worked at the bakery and was also the first Black man hired at the McDonald's on Main Street, and he made the sausage for Garcia's Pizza back in the day!
This brought history to life in a vivid way for Mrs. Findley's students!

Febrero es el mes de la Historia Afroamericana, y la clase de Historia de la Señora Findley está leyendo el libro "Up from Slavery" del autor Booker T. Washington.
📖 Historia local - Crystal Curry, de BHS, compartió la historia de su padre, Dewitt Taylor, quien era un panadero reclutado de la ciudad de Fairfield, Alabama, para trabajar en la panadería “Thompson” en la década de 1950. Ella compartió que una vez arrestaron a su padre en un restaurante en Louisville por negarse a abandonar el mostrador de almuerzos segregado.
