🌍💚 Happy Earth Day! Today was all about learning how to lend a hand in making our planet a greener, more beautiful place to live for our Sheridan 5th graders. Our Sharks dove into a day filled with eco-friendly activities, from discovering oil spill clean-up methods to crafting their very own bird feeders, planting seeds for the future, unraveling the mysteries of rock identification, and even dissecting owl pellets! 🌱🐦🔍 A huge shoutout to the U of I Ext. volunteers for their support in organizing and guiding our students through this green adventure. 🙌🌳 In other Earth Day news, Mrs. Mizell’s 1st-grade Sharks took a nature walk in honor of Earth Day and had a nature scavenger hunt to see what beauty they could find in Mother Nature! Owen Ryder and Aleigha Harvey, were recognized by the BHS Admin team and Assistant Principal Dan Saken attended the event with them. In addition, BHS student Brynn Hoder received her honors from the BACC Principal Bryce Hanson. These remarkable Raiders joined other students from across the Corn Belt region being recognized for their exemplary leadership, character, and academic achievements. Jessica will be filling the shoes of our Associate Director of Special Education, Asyley Schnittker, who will be stepping out for a well-deserved retirement this July. 🎓🌷 Jessica brings a wealth of expertise from Livingston County Special Services Unit where she dedicated nine amazing years as a Speech Language Pathologist and Special Education Program Supervisor. 🌟📚 Jessica can't wait to dive in, collaborate with the D87 staff, and continue advocating for every student's needs. 📦♻️Starting last school year, the BJHS Student Council introduced a shoebox Terracycle collection box in every classroom to collect hard-to-recycle items like pens, pencils, and markers. The results? Phenomenal! They filled Their main TerraCycle Collection box, measuring 11 x 11 x 40 inches in just one semester. 🌟 Fast forward to this school year, and they've already filled the first main collection box and started a second box and are on track to a greener future. 📈♻️ Kudos to the BJHS Student Council members who are rock stars at collecting every two weeks from all classrooms. 🤩⚽️ The BHS Girls Soccer Team paid a special visit to Mrs. Adam's first-grade class at Washington, bringing an electric energy that filled the playground and Wolf Park! 👧⚽️ The soccer players ran some drills with our 1st-grade Wolves, then it was playtime where all students, big and small had a "kicking" time playing together in Wolf Park!
