Mrs. Dobson's and Mrs. Masching's fourth-graders at Bent have been journeying through large events in American history via the ARC framework! 📚 Their latest adventure: the Cold War and the US participation in the Berlin Airlift. Students enjoyed reading Tom Brokaw's "Christmas from Heaven" a story about Lt. Halvorson's heartwarming mission to drop chocolates to West Berlin's children. 🍫✈️ Students then made handkerchief parachutes and recreated the candy drop at school, because learning history is sweetest when it's hands-on! #HistoricalFictionARC #TimeTravel #ChocolateDropRecreation #WeAreD87 Viaje en el tiempo, ¿se animan? In Ms. Willyard's and Mrs. Butt's American History classes, students took a fun ride back to the 1950s for pop culture day! 🕰️🎉 Students had "a ball" playing with tops, jump ropes, paper dolls and watching episodes of the very funny "I Love Lucy", 📺 as they explored the historical artifacts from the BHS Social Studies Artifact Collection. Our Raiders were impressed with how fun the simple yet "old" toys of the 50's really are! Friday night BHS Key Club members participated in the #NightInACar event held by Home Sweet Home Ministries. Taking to the challenge, Michael Lyons, Hayden Wense, Lorelei Carey, Andres Castillo, and Dr. Lycke spent a night in a D87 vehicle. 🚗 Their goal? To raise awareness about community members experiencing homelessness and generate funds for the crucial services provided by HSHM. 🏠 They serve as a reminder that we can all make a difference in our community.💖 And the opportunity isn't over yet! Back in California Mrs. Hesik was teaching high school English, so she will feel right at home teaching our Knights at BJHS!🏫 She is looking forward to becoming part of the Bloomington and D87 community, meeting new friends, and inspiring her students to have high expectations for themselves! 🎾🐶Fun facts: she would love to play some scoreless tennis with some people (any takers??) and she has a cute little corgi named Hank.
