🌎🍽Knights are learning through flavor! 8th graders in Mr. Toth’s Family and Consumer Sciences class have been exploring regional and international cuisine in their newly-renovated culinary lab; this week, they learned about Mexican cooking from Ms. Miramontes, a bilingual education teacher at BJHS. They made Taquitos Dorados de Pollo topped with homemade salsa — and they were delicious! At BJHS, collaboration among staff and celebrating the diversity in our community continue to be priorities we’re proud of- ¡Bien hecho, chefs! 👨🏼🍳

🌟 Mr. Wetzel: A True National Treasure! 🌟
After teaching social studies at BJHS for over 30 years, Mr. Wetzel retired two years ago and stepped into a new role as a self-contained special education paraprofessional at Sarah Raymond. In just two years, he has brought dedication, heart, and creativity to the position, going above and beyond to make learning accessible for our Rookies! ❤️
That's not all- he’s also a problem solver in his spare time! Mr. Wetzel has made custom stands for the Rookies AAC devices (iPads with voice output apps) to replace broken ones and has repaired various toys—like a dollhouse that took some damage from a little too much love- all in his spare time! 💭🛠️
Thank you, Mr. Wetzel, for your incredible impact on the Rookies and all of D87—you are truly appreciated! 🙌

📚🔐 Escape Room Fun at BHS!
Ms. Siemientkowski and Mrs. Brady transformed the library into a thrilling escape room for Banned Books Week! After a lesson on why books are challenged and banned, students worked in teams to complete an escape room, using clues and navigating books in the library that are frequently banned and challenged across the US to get a prize! 🏆🕵️♀️
A big round of applause to the Raiders, who used teamwork to beat this challenge! 🌟

Last week, the kindergarten Sharks enjoyed a fun-filled field trip to Braffet Berry Farm & Orchard with apples, donuts, cider, and a hayrack ride scavenger hunt! 🍂🍩
